Check before the busy weekends
Summer use is hard on batteries, cooling systems, upholstery, pumps, and safety gear. A short weekly routine prevents many dockside surprises.
Weekly checks
- Battery voltage and charger status
- Bilge pump operation and float switches
- Seacocks, hoses, clamps, and visible leaks
- Engine oil, coolant, belts, and strainers
- Navigation lights, horn, VHF, and throwable devices
- Dock lines, fenders, canvas, and zippers
After every run
Flush where appropriate, rinse salt from metal and upholstery, open compartments to dry, and note anything that felt different underway.
Keep a simple log
Record hours, fuel, service, issues, and repairs. A clean log helps with ownership and can strengthen resale confidence later.
